A humanoid robot with uncanny human-like appearance becomes the first robot in the history to get a citizenship of a country.

The 14-inch tall AI robot was developed by David Hanson, the founder of Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics. The one of its kind humanoid was designed to make over 50 facial expressions as users ask about the weather, traffic and basic trivia. Here's what the robot is all about:

Yes. It bestowed citizenship on Sophia ahead of the Future Investment Initiative, held in the kingdom's capital city of Riyadh.

What an irony!

The irony of a nation infamous for denying basic rights to its female citizens!

That is debatable. But Sophia and her future robot kin will help seniors in elderly care facilities and assist visitors at parks and events. At the event, Sophia said she wanted to use her artificial intelligence to help humans 'live a better life', and that 'I will do much [sic] best to make the world a better place'.

The robot was created by David Hanson, the founder of Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics, who is known for creating robots that look and act like humans.

She has cameras and AI software that allow her to 'make eye contact' and recognise people.

She also has voice recognition capabilities and can become smarter by talking with people. Apparently, she was created to look like Audrey Hepburn.
